WOOD CRANES

Our efficient wood cranes have been designed for demanding logging activities, but also suit general agricultural use. Our crane range is sure to provide customers with models optimal for their needs. Farmi Forest’s wood cranes have good lifting capacity, reach far and wide, and are extremely durable – the wood cranes have a long service life. We also offer a wide selection of accessories for the entire collection.

The cranes are typically installed on a trailer drawbar, which allows making use of the entire crane range and ensures optimal operating radius. The wood cranes can also be attached to a tractor using a Jake mounting kit. The wood crane can also be attached to a small tractor using a three-point hitch. We only recommend the smallest Farmi CR47 wood crane for the three-point hitch.

BALANCED SOLUTION WITH EXCELLENT OPERABILITY

Similarly as our trailers, our cranes are designed with operability in mind. The geometry and lifting forces of the cranes have been calibrated to have the capacity to handle loads, including stacks. This balanced and well-functioning solution has been achieved through careful design, with calibrated power and proportional range. All slewing units are equipped with four slewing cylinders and die cast gear houses. The gear houses have an oil drain cap, which makes the annual oil change required due to condensed water easy with FARMI wood cranes.

FARMI wood cranes are manufactured of 85% of special steel (Strenx) used to ensure long service life for the wood cranes. The pin locking plates are zinc-coated to ensure that they will not rust. The rotation shafts and racks are suitably study, corresponding to the wood crane’s size. All of the cranes include welded installation sockets for a crane winch. This makes it easy to install a winch, also at a later point.

In double extended models, hosing has been built within the beam system. This makes the hoses well-protected against external impacts and reduces damage compared to external scaffolding. Slide pieces are also adjustable.

The wood crane grapple is important for the crane’s operability. The 021 grapple used in 4–6 tonne wood cranes has an efficient and functional design. The grapple penetrates stacks efficiently and does not turn the final logs to a grid formation. The grapple and pins are made of specially manufactured steel. Thanks to the grapple’s reinforced jaws, it can also be used for handling stones.

The hose connectors for the grapple and rotator have been designed to protect the hose outlets in the load compartment side. This ensures that the hoses will not be prone to catch on growing trees or branches as the grapple is used to reach areas with limited visibility.

Our wood crane uses an articulated, flap down mechanism. As the trailer tilts during loading, the long profile of the articulated leg absorbs the tilting motion. This provides more support surface compared to an A-leg. The articulated leg also has better ground clearance compared to an A-leg, as the leg’s pivot point is closer to the trailer body. As a result, the pivot point is higher, which prevents it from getting tangled up in stones and tree stumps as the trailer tilts.

Control system that meet your needs

Wood cranes can be equipped with different control systems according to customers’ wishes. The smallest cranes include on/off valves as their basic valve solutions. To accommodate operating the on/off valve more lightly and easily, we offer a valve winch solution. There is a winch at the end of the accordion mechanism with bearings, making it easy to mount the valve system.

If the wood crane is used more or you wish for improved control, the crane is equipped with a hydraulic pilot control or electronic directional valve. The hydraulic and electronic valve system works with both an LS and gear pump. The hydraulic pilot control provides the user with a better feeling in controlling the machine. The hydraulic pilot control is tactile and feels similar as controlling an excavator. The valve system is fixed on the crane’s slewing unit. When this combination is detached/attached to a tractor, only handles weighing a few kilograms are moved to the crane cab.

The electronic pilot system allows making accurate adjustments. The electronic control can also be equipped with a boom control system, which involves a computer and sensors guiding the crane’s movements. In this case, the driver only controls the tip of the crane, i.e. the grapple, to the desired direction. Electrical valves are also installed to the side of the crane boom to allow unobstructed visibility to the load compartment for drivers.
